ELECTRON EMISSION

Objective
The main objective of this simple experiment is the one to demonstrate the electron emission from the filament to very high temperature (2 500 oC) of an incandescent lamp, which is known as Edison effect.

EXPERIMENTS

1. - In the first experiment, when igniting the center begins emisón of electrons by the filament warmed up to about 2500 degrees Celsius. These electrons load the electroscope slowly. This can be verified when separating the leaves of the electroscope. The electrons go away to both leaves and they would separate because they have the same load (repulsion)

Scheme

2. - In the second experiment, neon changes eletroscópio with the lamp miniature. A terminal of neon connects to the paper aluminum that has the incandescent lamp and the other terminal to a pole with the mains, along with one of the terminals of the filament of the lamp.
At the moment at which the neon shines, it is demonstrated, in addition to the phenomenon of electron emission by the hot filament, the rectification of the electrical current. Then the center gets to work as if outside a diode
