Solar kitchens Prototype

This prototype of solar kitchen is of material of 0,7 mm in thickness Anocoil aluminum that has the quality of the mirror and some steel tubes. The reflector is opened as a parasol, because each segment turns in center. Around the edge there is a rubber band that unites it. The aluminum of 0,7 mm is a little thin to support its own weight so that it shakes in center. In order to avoid this we placed a support in the part of down. Also he is unstable in the focal point when there is wind. In spite of this it works very well in days with sun. Also it is possible to be stored reason why he is ideal to encamp. It is 1,2 ms of diameter, which is equivalent to 1m2 of sunlight but its efficiency is of 60%.

The second kitchen designed from the book ‘Cooking with the Sun: How to Solar Build and Use Cookers’ by Beth and Dan Halacy. Although we took a little in constructing it was much more efficient. The reflector became of 24 cardboard pieces placed in radial form each 15 degrees. Each one of the 24 elements reflectors stick with tape to the ribs. The box and the reflectors are of 1m x 1m. The efficiency and stability are very good. In a sunny day it is easy to make boil Popes and fry sausages. In order to verify the focal point we placed a newspaper that caught fire in seconds. The only problem is that at time of rain, with enough humidity and after some months in the garage, the cardboard lies down to lose its form.

This model is more stable and simple to construct, in addition to efficient. The principle of the “wine box is used? to assure the cardboard by the inner part and thus to create the required form so that the reflector fits inside. This is a small version of 50cm x 50cm. The reflector the same has spherical form with a radius of 25cm (to the dimensions of the box) consequently an almost parabolic form with a focal point to 25cm of the reflector is obtained. Each rib is to 5 cm of distance. 11 ribs are needed to obtain the form. Each rib has a different radius, following where is placed it. Everything what uqe must do is to draw in a paper and soon to transfer these drawings to the cardboard and to cut with scissors the required form. Soon some are made notches in the part inferior of pizas and it is assembled.

The reflector becomes of a piece of 0,3 mm in thickness Anocoil aluminum. If they do not secure this type of material, the aluminum laminae can also be used that are used in the press and which they are rejected once they have been used. One of the faces is very shining, this must go towards the outside. They are marked in angles of 15 cm and soon it is cut with a sharpened blade, leaving a place in means without cutting.

The reflector in the cardboard is placed soon and the sides are cut to the suitable length. The reflector makes sure soon with sticky tape by the edges, and so a precise focal point is obtained. Also the test with aluminum lamina can be done of which it is used to cook, peroa is necessary to stick this to a fine cardboard or thin cardboard.

The quarrel for of steel tube of 16 mm and some bronze strips. A point of pivot in means allows to vary with the height of the sun.

This kitchen has an area of only 25cm2 but the same water can be boiled. It is also quite easy to do.
